USFS Recreation Area. Forests are mostly white pine and white oak. Small streams have herbaceous, beaver-influenced wetlands.;Flat upland bench in valley bottom, above small tributary of Meadow Creek. Acidic soils derived from Pocono sandstone (?). Community is a mixed evergreen-deciduous forest dominated by large hemlock, white pine, and white oak. Hemlock canopy appears thin and is probably dying from an adelgid infestation. Herbs and shrubs are sparse due to heavy shade, but sunny gap supports higher cover and diversity.
Representativeness
Placed to sample mature hemlock - white pine forest, before hemlock is dead. Similar to plots at Gauley and Calvin Price, and USNVC type. Mesic climax forest.
